The Leupold VX-Freedom 450 Bushmaster 3-9×40 (Leupold part #176011) is a 3-9x40mm riflescope with a 1″ main tube and the Duplex reticle in the second (rear) focal plane. The VX-Freedom is Leupold’s best-value hunting line, with a 3x zoom range and Leupold’s Twilight Light Management System.
Key Features
- 3-9x magnification (3x zoom range) with a 40mm objective
- Second focal plane reticle: stays the same size and easy to see as you zoom
- Easy rezero after sighting in
- Waterproof and fogproof, backed by Leupold’s lifetime guarantee
Duplex Reticle
The Duplex is the reticle Leupold invented in 1962 and still the most popular in the world. Heavy outer posts draw your eye to the center and stay visible against dark timber, while thin center crosshairs let you place precise shots. See the reticle diagram in the product photos.

FAQ
What size scope rings does this scope need?
It has a 1″ main tube, so you need 1″ rings. A good match is the Leupold BackCountry Cross-Slot 1″ Medium Rings, or browse all scope rings.
What does second focal plane (SFP) mean?
The reticle sits behind the magnification lenses, so it stays the same size as you zoom. It stays bold and easy to see at low power, which is why most hunting scopes use it.
